The Cedar River priority landscape includes the municipal watershed that is carefully managed to support and supply clean drinking water to 1.5 million people in the greater Seattle area. The 2020 Forest Action Plan identified this area as a priority landscape based on analyses that identified this landscape has a high number of small forest land owners while forests in this area have high values in timber volume, above ground biomass and carbon storage, and high value as a source of drinking water.
